The cycle paths in Germany are exceptional, perfect smooth surfaces and practically deserted. There were still lots of forests but increasingly agricultural, including a gorgeous field of sunflowers.

It wasn’t a long ride to Görlitz so obviously 30km extra had to be added on, back across the river into Poland and looping back along the river Neiße.
We had a late lunch back at Görlitz overlooking the river, schnitzel and bratkartoffeln were perfect for a permanently hungry cyclist.
Görlitz is a beautiful old town divided by the river and, since 1945, a border. On the left side of this bridge everyone speaks Polish and on the right hand side, entirely German.
It was used as a location for the Grand Budapest Hotel and various other films.
