The ride to the coffe stop was on fast, flat, beautifully smooth roads and I zoomed along with the front of the pack. That is fun for a while but you don’t really appreciate the scenery and go into the happy pedalling zone, so Joanne and I opted to hang back a bit and do our own thing.
The first photo opportunity was a huge mine that is now a huge lake.
Joanne was obviously missing the cornfields of Iowa so stopped to take a photo of the East German version!
A German dignatory at some point must have decided that water towers were a design opportunity and got a bit carried away..
Lunch was at a rose garden right on the Polish border and we decided that 60 miles was too short a day, obviously, so we opted to do an extra loop into Poland. Disappointingly there were no ‘Welcome to Poland’ signs, but the place names were definitely different, as was the road surface.
We rode through a beautiful forest, across a brand new bridge and back into Germany.
The hotel is in Bad Muskau, a small town right on the Polish border with a rather impressive castle which had to be completely rebuilt after WW2.
The ride today was long but fast, the tree trunks are going to be stiff!
